David Chipperfield was born in London, England, and studied architecture at the Architectural Association School of Architecture. After working with Norman Foster and Richard Rogers, he established David Chipperfield Architects in 1985.

Born in Lisbon in 1940, Rogério Cavaca pursued his architectural studies at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto, graduating in 1965. He began his professional career in the 1960s, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the Portuguese architectural scene.

Throughout his career, Cavaca has been involved in various notable projects. One of his distinguished works includes the design of a 3-bedroom villa at the Bom Sucesso Design Resort, Leisure & Golf, located near Óbidos. This villa exemplifies his approach to integrating architecture with the surrounding landscape, offering generous living spaces and south-facing gardens that seamlessly connect with the 15th hole of the golf course.

In addition to residential projects, Cavaca has contributed to public infrastructure, such as the Dom João II Metro Station in Porto. Luisa Penha was born in Porto (Portugal) in 1958 and pursued her studies in Architecture at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto from 1976 to 1981. She later completed her degree at FAUP – Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto during the 1985-1986 academic year, achieving a final grade of 16. This outstanding result earned her the Eng. António de Almeida Prize for the highest academic achievement of that year.

As an architect, she collaborated with Siza Vieira between 1978 and 2006 and has been practising independently since 1984, with an extensive portfolio of completed works. Notable among these are: the O Carteiro restaurant (1998-2001), which earned her an honourable mention in the Almada Prize; two houses with a shared swimming pool (2007-2012) located in Praça de Liége, Porto; and the Duas Portas Townhouse hotel (2011-2017) on Rua de Sobreiras, Porto.

Born in Porto, Portugal, in 1972, Nuno Graça Moura pursued his architectural studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) from 1990 to 1996. During his academic journey, he interned and later collaborated with Souto Moura Arquitectos Lda between 1994 and 2002, participating in various projects alongside esteemed architects Eduardo Souto de Moura and Álvaro Siza Vieira.

In 2002, Graça Moura established his own practice, “Nuno Graça Moura, Arquitecto Un. Lda.,” based in Porto. He has continued to collaborate with Eduardo Souto de Moura on several projects, showcasing a shared vision and dedication to architectural excellence. Notably, he curated the “Souto de Moura 1980-2015” exhibition at Stiftung Insel Hombroich in Neuss, Düsseldorf, Germany, from April to August 2015, and authored the accompanying publication.

Born in Porto, Portugal, in 1970, Nuno Brandão Costa graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto (FAUP) in 1994. Early in his career, he interned with Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland (1992-1993), and collaborated with José Fernando Gonçalves & Paulo Providência in Porto (1993-1997). In 1998, he established his own practice after winning first prize in the public competition for the Library of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Brandão Costa’s work has been showcased internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, the São Paulo Architecture Biennale, and the Milan Architecture Triennale. He has received several accolades, such as the Secil Prize in 2008 and the Vale da Gândara Award in 2010/2011. In academia, he has been teaching at FAUP since 1999, where he completed his PhD in 2013 and currently serves as an associate professor. His contributions to architecture and education have solidified his reputation as a leading figure in contemporary Portuguese architecture.

Born in Lisbon in 1953, Manuel Graça Dias graduated in architecture from the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa (ESBAL) in 1977. His early career took him to Macau, where he worked alongside Manuel Vicente, an experience that influenced his creative and modernist design approach.

Upon returning to Portugal, Graça Dias combined practice with academia, becoming a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon and later teaching at the University of Porto. In 1990, he co-founded Atelier Contemporânea with Egas José Vieira, and together they designed cultural buildings, theaters, museums, and public spaces that redefined modern Portuguese architecture.

Beyond architecture, Graça Dias was a prolific writer, critic, and media personality, contributing articles, books, and participating in public discussions on urbanism and architectural identity. His most notable works include the Portuguese Pavilion at Expo ’92 in Seville, the Municipal Theater of Almada, and various urban interventions.

His impact was widely recognized, earning him the AICA/Ministry of Culture Prize in 1999, among other distinctions. Manuel Graça Dias passed away in 2019, leaving a legacy of architectural innovation and critical thought that continues to influence new generations of architects.

Madalena Cardoso de Menezes and Francisco Teixeira Bastos both trained at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon (FA-UTL) and have had extensive professional and academic careers.

Madalena Cardoso de Menezes graduated in 1992 and began her career at Manuel Vicente’s office, where she worked on projects in Portugal and Macau, including a dressage arena at the Queluz National Palace for the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art. She was part of the winning project team for Expo’98 and later co-founded Atelier dos Remédios in 1997. She has been involved in urban and hospitality projects, such as a hotel proposal for the Vasco da Gama Tower. In addition to her architectural practice, she has been a Visiting Professor at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL) since 2003, teaching Architectural Design Studio.

Francisco Teixeira Bastos, an architect since 1986, also had a significant collaboration with Manuel Vicente, where he worked on multiple projects before becoming a partner in Vicente’s firm in 1992. He played a key role in the design of the dressage arena at Queluz National Palace, which received an honorable mention at the Second Architecture Triennial in Sintra. Like Menezes, he was part of the winning team for the Expo’98 project and managed the Virtual Reality Pavilion for the event. His academic career has been equally distinguished; since 2000, he has been a professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, teaching Architecture Design Studio. He later pursued a PhD, focusing on the relationship between architectural communication and site integration. Additionally, he has been involved in artistic and participatory performances, notably collaborating with artist Marta Wengorovius.

Together, Menezes and Bastos have built a versatile and multidisciplinary practice, combining their design expertise with teaching and research. Through Atelier dos Remédios, they have shaped modern Portuguese architecture, contributing to residential, educational, and cultural projects, with a focus on urban regeneration and contemporary architectural solutions.
