1980 - 1987
The Amoreiras Complex is a landmark of postmodern architecture in Lisbon, designed by architect Tomás Taveira and inaugurated in 1985. Located in the Campo de Ourique district, the complex includes three striking office towers, a residential building with over 100 apartments, and the iconic Amoreiras Shopping Center—one of the first major shopping malls in Portugal.
Bold in form and rich in geometric detail, the complex helped redefine the city’s skyline with its distinctive silhouette and vibrant use of color. Built on elevated terrain, the towers were inspired by medieval warrior helmets, giving the ensemble a monumental and expressive character.
Awarded the Prémio Valmor e Municipal de Arquitectura in 1993, the Amoreiras Complex remains a symbol of Lisbon’s urban transformation in the 1980s and continues to serve as a hub for commerce, work, and residential life.
